IBPS PO Exam (Probationary Officer / Management Trainee)

The IBPS PO exam is a gateway to officer-level roles in public sector banks. It follows the CRP PO/MT process.

Skills tested:
● Reasoning: Puzzles, Seating  Arrangements, Syllogism, Inequalities, Coding-Decoding, Data Sufficiency, Logical Reasoning.
● Quantitative Aptitude: Simplification, Approximation, Data Interpretation, Quadratic Equations, Number Series, Profit & Loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Time-Speed-Distance, Time & Work, Simple and Compound Interest, Mensuration, Probability.
●  English Language: Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Error Detection, Vocabulary.
● General Awareness & Financial Awareness: Current Affairs, Banking Terms, RBI Policies, and Static GK.
The Main exam also includes a descriptive section (essay & letter) to test writing skills. Final selection is based on combined scores from Main + Interview.

The selection process for the IBPS PO exam consists of three phases

IBPS PO Exam Pattern

The Phase-II examination for RBI Grade B consists of three papers, each carrying 100 marks, making a
total of 300 marks. The papers are conducted online and include both objective and descriptive types.

Paper I – Economic and Social Issues (ESI)

● Type of Paper:
○ 50% Objective Type
○ 50% Descriptive Type
● Time Duration: 120 Minutes (30 mins for objective + 90 mins for descriptive)
● Total Marks: 100 (50 marks each for objective and descriptive sections)
● Objective Section: 30 questions, carrying 50 marks (some questions carry 1 mark, others 2 marks).
● Descriptive Section: 6 questions will be asked, out of which candidates must attempt 4 questions
○ 2 questions of 15 marks each
○ 2 questions of 10 marks each
(If more than 4 questions are answered, only the first 4 will be evaluated.)

Paper II – English
(Writing Skills)

  • Time Duration: 90 Minutes

  • Number of Questions: 3
  • This paper assesses essay writing, comprehension, and precis writing to evaluate writing clarity, grammar, and coherence.

Paper III – Finance and Management (F&M)

  • Type of Paper:

○ 50% Objective Type

○ 50% Descriptive Type (to be typed on the keyboard)

  • Time Duration: 120 Minutes(30 mins for objective + 90 mins for descriptive)

2. IBPS SO Exam (Specialist Officer)

The IBPS SO exam is for candidates who want to work in specialized domains like IT, Marketing, HR, Law, Agriculture, etc.

Prelims is qualifier level to screen candidates for Mains. Mains tests domain knowledge (professional subjects) along with general sections (Reasoning, English, etc.). Interview follows for those who clear Mains.
The number of Specialist Officer posts in 2025 is 1,007 across various domains.

3. IBPS Clerk Exam (Clerical Cadre / Customer Service Associate)

The IBPS Clerk exam (CRP Clerks / CRP-CSA) recruits for clerical jobs in public sector banks.

Prelims tests: English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning. Main Exam adds: General/Financial Awareness, Computer Knowledge, and deeper levels in Quant & Reasoning.
The 2025 cycle (CRP CSA-XV) has over 10,277 vacancies for clerical posts.

RBI Assistant

The RBI Assistant is one of the most prestigious clerical-level positions offered by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Language Proficiency Test (LPT)

The Prelims and Mains are online objective-type tests covering English, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude,

General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge. Candidates who clear both stages must qualify for the LPT,

which ensures they are comfortable with the local or regional language of the RBI office they’re applying for.
