1) Senior Indian Information Service officer Satyendra Prakash assumed charge as the head of the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
➨A 1988-batch IIS officer, Prakash was the principal DG, Central Bureau of Communication before being appointed as the principal director general of the PIB.

2) India won a historic gold medal in lawn bowls at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
➨ India defeated South Africa 17-10 in the women’s fours lawn bowls final.
➨The victory has given India its fourth gold medal of the campaign, and the first-ever in the sport.
3) Indian weightlifter Vikas Thakur completed a hat-trick of Commonwealth Games medals after winning a silver in the men’s 96kg category at the Birmingham 2022.
4) Tata Group will roll out its ‘First in India’ seating system for Vande Bharat Express trains from September 2022 and is planning to spend Rs 3,000 crore on research and development by 2026.
5) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik released a book titled ‘Lockdown Lyrics’, a collection of poems written on experiences and exasperations during the pandemic. It is written by poet Sanjukta Dash.
6) The Punjab government has signed an agreement for becoming a member of the prestigious Global Network called ‘Under2 Coalition’ to check global warming.
➨With this, Punjab has become a member of the largest network of 221 states of 43 countries committed to reducing carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions.
7) NBA legend William Felton Russell or Bill Russell passed away. He was at 88.
➨Russell also served as a player coach for the Celtics and became the first black coach of a US sports team.
8) The Indian men’s table tennis team won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022. In the final match, India defeated Singapore 3-1.
9) Union Shipping Minister Sarbanand Sonowal and Minister of State for Shipping Shripad Naik inaugurated the Chabahar Day conference in Mumbai.
➨The Chabahar port is a key pillar of India’s Indo-Pacific vision to connect with Eurasia with Indian Ocean Region.
10) Indian badminton team claimed the silver medal in the mixed group match of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
➨Indian badminton mixed team suffered a 1-3 defeat against Malaysia and had to settle for silver. Only PV Sindhu managed to earn a win in the summit clash against Malaysia in the women’s singles match.
11) West Bengal government has decided to carve out seven new districts in the state.
➨With this, the total number of districts in West Bengal has now gone up to 30.
➨The 7 new districts include – Sunderban, Ichhemati, Ranaghat, Bishnupur, Jangipur, Behrampur, Basirhat.

12) Bajrang Punia defeated Lachlan McNeil of Canada to win gold in men’s freestyle 65kg category wrestling at Commonwealth Games 2022.
➨With gold in CWG 2022, Bajrang completed a hat-trick of CWG medals as he also won gold in 2018 Gold Coast and silver in 2014 Glasgow.
13) The Union environment ministry announced that India has added 10 more wetlands, taking the total Ramsar sites to 64.
➨The new sites include six wetlands from Tamil Nadu and one each from Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
➨The new Indian wetlands are Tamil Nadu’s Udhayamarthandapuram Bird Sanctuary, Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary, Vellode Bird Sanctuary, Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary, Gulf of Mannar Marine Biosphere Reserve, Vembannur Wetland Complex, Madhya Pradesh’s Sirpur wetland, Karnataka’s Ranganathituu BS , Nanda Lake of Goa and Satkosia Gorge of Odisha
