Selection Process

The RBI Grade B selection process is rigorous and multi-tiered, designed to identify the most analytically capable and well-rounded candidates. The process comprises:

Stage 1 – Phase-I: Preliminary Online Examination

The first filter in the selection process. This is an objective-type, computer-based test covering General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, and Reasoning Ability. The Phase-I exam is only applicable to the General cadre; DEPR and DSIM candidates appear for a direct Phase-I written paper. Marks scored in Phase-I are not counted towards the final merit.

Stage 2 – Phase-II: Mains Online Examination

The most critical stage of the process. Mains consists of three papers: Paper I (Economic & Social Issues), Paper II (English Writing Skills), and Paper III (Finance & Management). The papers are a blend of objective and descriptive formats, testing depth of knowledge, analytical ability, and written communication skills. Marks from Phase-II are directly included in the final merit calculation.

Stage 3 – Personal Interview

Candidates shortlisted on the basis of Phase-II performance are called for a structured personal interview conducted by a panel of RBI officials and subject matter experts. The interview assesses personality, domain knowledge, communication skills, and suitability for the role.

Final Selection & Merit List

The ultimate merit list is compiled by combining the normalised scores of Phase-II and the Interview. There is no weightage from Phase-I in the final ranking. Appointment letters are issued strictly in order of merit within each category.
